Important Facts About Vintage Style Engagement Rings

July 2nd, 2010

One of the well-known news of all time was when Prince Charles bought a ring for Princess Diana. It was one of those romantic things a guy had ever done for her girl. During that time, the ring costs 65,000. It has an enormous sapphire in it surrounded by little diamonds. It was considered the second most in demand stone next to the diamond and it was also the most copied engagement ring in the history.

In 1923, the Queen Mother got her sapphire ring which she had told the world about in her one and only interview. According to the Queen, it was her favorite gemstone. However, some years after that, she have switched into something; a large pearl ring that is also surrounded by diamonds around. A lot of people have speculated that the ring was homage to the Queen Mary who had also worn a similar designed engagement ring. It also has the same gemstone until her death. It did look like those beautiful vintage style engagement rings.

Also, one of the most known vintage style engagement rings was that of Queen Elizabeth had. It was a beautiful ring that was a favorite by a lot of people that also has a great story behind it. It was said that the Prince Philip was not liked by the royal family because he was poor and also a foreigner.

The royal family had also made public about their dislike for the prince. Prince Philip’s mother gave him her tiara which is a very valuable thing that time. The prince had made and designed a ring and had used the gems in the tiara. So many people considered this as their favorite out of all the vintage style engagement rings.

The ring is also made in platinum and it has a set of 11 diamonds, a 3 carat of solitaire and a 5 small stones on each side of it. Prince Philip had missed the sizing of the ring but then successfully resized it to become smaller to make it in time with the photo shoot.

Diamond – April’s Gemstone of Sparkling Glamour

May 23rd, 2010

Diamond is a precious gemstone frequently incorporated into some of the most modern, beautiful handmade jewelry in the world. It is a clear stone revered for its ability to reflect light, and is widely recognized as the April Birthstone and the center stone used in most American engagement rings. But beyond its modern-day uses and associations, diamonds hold a decadent mythological, spiritual and etymological history that add nostalgic value to their already strong aesthetic worth. Read on for more information that will help you fall in love with your diamond jewelry – or inspire you to buy some today!

Diamonds are prized for their beauty and durability. A form of carbon, the Diamond is the world’s hardest known natural material. In fact, the word “Diamond” comes from the ancient Greek adamas, which means invincible. Because of their durability, Diamonds have been used in tools for since antiquity. Diamonds were first used as religions icons in India nearly 2,500 years ago. Since then, they’ve become highly coveted gemstones.

Diamonds are often described and valued by their gemological characteristics: The Four C’s (carat, color, cut and clarity). Although Diamonds are used in many types of fine jewelry, they are traditionally associated with engagement and wedding rings. Most people think diamonds are white or colorless. In fact, yellow and brown Diamonds are the most common. Any Diamond with a hue other than brown or yellow is considered a colored Diamond. Colorless Diamonds are pure or nearly pure. The color scale for colorless diamonds goes from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow).

Diamonds look best as parts of formal evening jewelry when paired with Black Onyx, dark amethyst or cool blue sapphire. More casual combinations include lighter, bridal colored blends with aquamarine, pearls and carnelian. To see a selection of handmade artisan jewelry featuring raw diamonds, click here. Diamond is typically considered a sophisticated gemstone that works well with any outfit. In earrings, it works especially well to enhance the luster of blue or green eyes.

Almost half of all Diamonds come from mines in central and southern Africa. The other half comes from mines in Canada, India, Russia, Brazil and Australia. Today, the jewelry industry is buzzing about high-quality or lab-created diamonds. These synthetic diamonds possess the same molecular structure as natural diamonds. With public concerns about the mining industry, these man-made beauties offer a compelling alternative to the real thing.

Mohs’ Hardness score is based on a 10 point scale where 10 is the most resistant, like a diamond, and 1 is easily scratched, such as Talc. Diamonds are often proved real by the fact that they can scratch glass. Because they are such scratch resistant stones, diamonds are extremelty suitable as a component of oft-worn jewelry. Diamonds should be regularly cleaned by a professional or with a soft rag and mild soap and water. Avoid ultra-sonic cleaners, solvents and harsh chemicals when cleaning your handcrafted jewelry as exposure to these elements can damage semi-precious and precious gemstones and pearls.

My education and career plans have been going downhill since the past year, what gemstone should i wear?

April 7th, 2010

My education and career plans have been going downhill since the past year. I’ve always been on top of things so I don’t know why this is happening… its so frustrating! is there any gemstone which would relieve some of this tension and make me concentrate more on my studies?
DOB: Sept 23, 1991, Kansas, USA
I believe I am gemini lagna (mithuna).
I have ketu in the 1st house.
Venus in 2nd house.
Mercury and Jupiter in 3rd house. (supposed to be good for education, but.. im not sure anymore)
Mars and Sun is in the 4th house.
Rahu in 7th house.
Saturn in 8th house.
Moon in 9th house.
I’ve been wearing a moonstone and pearl for 5 yrs and I thought it suited me well. I tried wearing a emerald substitute but I don’t think it suited me. Would a diamond help in education problems? I’ve been going through the saturn phase since i was born, and i think now it is the mars sub phase… could someone please suggest me something?

7 Tips for Successful Holiday Diamond and Gemstone Jewelry Shopping

December 24th, 2009

The holiday season is coming fast and furious, with Christmas just a few short weeks away. Whether shopping for Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice or some other winter holiday, you’re bound to be on the look out for bargains and special buys to help you stretch your hard earned dollars.

Before you begin your shopping, especially if you are looking to give the gift of sparkling jewelry this festive season, you may want to keep some things in mind. While price is certainly an important component of the gift buying experience, there are other factors which can spell the difference between a highly satisfactory or disappointing jewelry buying experience.

To that end, we’re offering to you seven smart seasonal shopping tips for your consideration:

Shop Around – Most definitely, this year will be challenging for some consumers in the light of current economic conditions. However, tough times for retailer’s means that bargains galore will be awaiting savvy shoppers. Prices of many luxury items, including jewelry haven’t been this low in years, giving the opportunistic shopper a great opportunity to get more sparkle for less money.

Compare Stores – Should you shop at the mall or should you shop online? Many consumers do both, but they’ve grown accustomed to shopping online to find the best values. Online jewelry stores offer a wide selection of distinctive diamonds, pearls, silver, gold, gemstones and other desirable gift items. However, not every shop carries a wide selection nor does every store pass along their savings to you. Online prices should be lower especially if you’re dealing directly with the jeweler instead of going through a middleman. Moreover, select online merchants operate with a lower overhead than storefront shops and pass these savings back to you, the consumer.

Examine Inventory – If money is tight, but you still want to buy your sweetheart a memorable gift, consider choosing a slightly lower grade metal or gem. Instead of a platinum band, why not go with white gold? If buying a diamond, which of the four Cs does she value the most – cut, clarity, color, or carat weight? If cut is the most important, than consider choose a diamond with a lower carat weight. Even a small size variation from what you would like to buy could provide a stunning diamond sparkler that will meet her approval.

Consider Silver – Silver prices have stabilized and are certainly much lower than gold. Silver is also in vogue and something that she may very well prefer over other precious metals. To that end, the Hot Diamonds collection is one of the trendiest and most sought after designs, offering a unique look at value prices. Special note for the ladies: Hot Diamonds also has a collection of cufflinks, necklaces, rings, and bracelets for the man in your life!

Seek Pearls – Once only affordable by royalty and the wealthy, pearls are now in abundance, thanks to modern farming techniques. As a result, cultured pearl prices have come down considerably and are still dropping especially for smaller sized pearls. Prices are determined by size, color, luster, quality, shape and surface markings. Compare various strands, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and studs to find the perfect pearl jewelry for your loved one.

Trade Gemstones – If you know that she has her eye on diamonds, but your budget is closer to topaz, why not compromise? There are plenty of designer jewelers who mix and match gemstones, adding in a ruby with a diamond and a pearl to create a fabulous, strikingly appealing design that will take her breath away. Best of all, when you buy online you’ll save money and in some cases not be charged sales tax too!

Esteem Time – The last tip is more for your emotional well being: relax! When shopping for the perfect diamond ring or exquisite pearl drop earrings or other gift item, you simply do not want to rush. An anxious buyer is a dissatisfied consumer, someone who will doubt his decision and regret his purchase. If you’re not sure what you should buy, contact a trained jewelry expert who will happily guide you through the shopping process. If you are buying diamond jewelry you can design what she wants yourself, allowing you to play an important part in gift buying experience.

Very soon the holidays will be here and you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that you bought just the right gift at the right price for the person who means the most in your life.
