January 29th, 2011Can someone proofread and edit my assignment for Langage Arts?
May 6th, 2010After reading “The Necklace” by Guy de Maupassant (can be found here: http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/Neck.shtml ), I was supposed to write eulogy for Madame Loisel (Matilda Loisel). Although eulogies are supposed to be of praise, my teacher stated that we may write negative things about Madame Loisel.
A Eulogy for Matilda Loisel
Friends, we are gathered here today for the funeral of Matilda Loisel. As many of you know, I was her husband.
When Matilda and I first met, I was at once captivated by her beauty and charm. Her very presence seemed to be one of great nobility. To my delight, we were soon betrothed and married. Unfortunately, she was never content with the life that we had. No, Matilda dreamed of palatial estates and exquisite furniture. Being a clerk in the Board of Education, I was never able to provide such a life for her.
There is a saying that states that money is the root of all evil. For Matilda, I am sad to say that this was true. As the time passed, Matilda grew insufferable. I could barely take it. Not a day would pass by without her complaining about our house or weeping about her rich friend. Her dreams of wealth became increasingly wild.
Eventually, I grew sympathetic towards her. In an attempt to cheer her up, I once surprised her with an invitation to a grand ball. She responded with selfishness. Matilda insisted that I give her four hundred francs had I had been saving to buy a dress. Then she went and lost a diamond necklace she borrowed. We worked ten long, grueling years to pay it all off.
Through those years, Matilda learned about the life of poverty, first-hand. Strangely though, she remained as self-centered as she was before, but I realized that she has a great amount of determination. She didn’t let anything beat her. She kept pushing through until the end when she died of natural causes in her sleep. Despite her flaws, may she rest in peace.
By the way, I have never really grasped the concept of paragraphs. I am never sure when it is appropriate to start a new one. So if you can help me with that, it would be awesome.
Thank you in advance!
